In the beginning…
Despite the reference to the bible, I do not have the audacity to suggest that my work (or what comes after this sentence) is of such significance. Ultimately this will be a short post announcing the beginning of this website.
Why did I make a web page? It’s simple - control. I am now at the point in my photographic journey that I wish to present my work in a more established and elegant manner that I can curate / organize / edit at my whim. Like many, I’m losing faith with the social media platforms and the culture of influencers, short-form content and algorithms. Nevertheless I still feel the need to put my work out there somewhere and I figured it was time to put some skin in the game and come up with something personal and more mature.
Additionally, I’m at the point where starting a blog seems like a manageable new avenue for me to explore. I chose SquareSpace due to familiarity and the regular stream of advertisements from the “content” I consume, and it does seem to live up to the expectations at this point. Perhaps I’ll have to do a review in time.
I hope that I am able to establish a reach and connect with people who are interested in my work and perhaps provide insights, lessons and values that I have learned or adopted over the years. I intend to do share my photographic philosophy, gear commentary and photographic adventures along the way. If I can use this to make a little cash or monetize my assets, that’d be nice, however I don’t intend this to develop into a page that prioritizes commerce over expression and ideas. I have a day job, and plan to keep it.
I don’t know where this will go at this point, however do hope that it isn’t another one of my failed attempts to branch out and reach new audiences. We’ll have to see, I guess.
One thing about me is that I am quite private. I don’t intend to be sharing much on personal details or posting photos of myself. Perhaps this may change, perhaps not. It’s just one of those things that I think we’ve forgotten that we are entitled to it the age of social media and I think it is quite a valuable attribute to give up so freely.
